Client:

St Aloysius College

Sector:

Community, Education and Healthcare

Role:

Statutory and Land Use Planning

Description:

Founded in 1880 by the Sisters of Mercy, St Aloysius College provides education from the Montessori Early Learning Centre (ELC) up to Year 12.

Situated in the heart of Adelaide’s CBD, the College campus boasts a blend of buildings from different eras, including two (2) State Heritage-listed sites. Despite heritage protection constraints and limited space, the school has adopted innovative development strategies to continue delivering leading educational and recreational facilities for its community.

A prime example of this innovation is the College’s new vertical primary school. This modern, four-level building is designed to complement the adjacent State Heritage structures and includes a music room opening onto a new courtyard, multipurpose learning spaces to support diverse educational experiences, and a rooftop active play area. The project was developed in collaboration with students, teachers, and the wider school community to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment.

MasterPlan guided the project through the State Planning Commission assessment process, addressing various agency and authority requests, with the assistance of a dedicated consultant team. The process culminated in unanimous approval from the State Commission Assessment Panel.
